Department of Chemistry

Chemistry is a laboratory science that is based on observations of changes that occur when different materials are mixed. In our college, the department of chemistry has been established in 1960 with five students who had dreams and desire to enrich their competence in the field of chemical sciences. We know the fact that the prosperity and progress of faculty depends on the fundamental facilities. Our former Heads of the Department viz. Shri Dingre V. B., Shri Girijaprasad Kane, Shri Adthe M. Y. and Shri Patil H. R. tried their level best for all round development of the department. Due to sincere efforts of Principal S.K. More today we have fundamental facilities such as well maintained store, well equipped laboratories, laboratory drainage and departmental library etc.
It is a matter of pride to mention that our two staff members are Ph.D., three staff members are M.Phil. Our staff members acquired not only good academic qualification, but they are also ahead in extra-curricular and social activities like Text book writing, Radio talks, participation in Blood Donation camp etc.
Number of innovative curricular and extra-curricular activities such as Seminars, Guest Lectures, Student’s Periodical-Chemica, Workshops were conducted successfully. All these programmes have added a great value to our teaching and learning programme. We  take a great pride in stating achievement of our ex-students, such as Miss Kaujalgi P.S., Gholap S.L. & Walekar B.J. are rank holders of Shivaji University. Dr. P.K. Deshpande, Dr. Kailas Sonawane and Dr. Gholap Shivaji performance were outstanding. Our 10 students qualified  NET/SET/GATE so far.
Students of Chemistry actively participated in Science Exhibition which shri Shivaji Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, Barshi hold on eve of Karmaveer  Dr. Jagdale Mama’s birth anniversary. This department activity enhances scientific attitude and popularize science in the society.
The main objective of the science is to serve the society and to provide solutions to social problems. In view of this, we have proposed to start job oriented courses which will help them to solve the problems namely unemployment and upliftment of underprivileged students.
